Trip Info & Insights
Live bait fishing for the mahi is my personal favourite. Although they will also go for poppers, lures, jigs, etc. If they get a bit shy for artificials, live bait always does the trick. You never know what will eat your live bait and there is a good chance of rainbow runner, small tuna and even sailfish! The mahi tend to be smaller on average (but very plentiful) at the start of the season in July and then get bigger (but fewer) towards the end of the season in January.
Gear: Depends on the size of the mahi but medium spinning or live bait set up, 5000, 6000, 8000 reel. PE 2 to 3. 40lb to 50lb leader.
