Trip Info & Insights

Rompin is known as one of the sailfish capitals of the world. Pitching live bait is the chosen method to target the sails, a really fun way of fishing. Each day is typically started by catching some live bait with sabikis. You can also do some jigging and casting alongside having live baits out. Having fished Rompin many times now, I have personally never failed to catch at least one nice sailfish each time. I have also caught other species including cobia, etc.

Gear: provided by the charter but feel free to bring your own. 8000, 10000 even 6000 reels all ok, PE 2.5, 3 or 4, 50lb or 60lb leader.

Recommended accommodation: Villea Rompin Resort & Golf

How to get there: Fly into Kuala Lumpur, rent a car and drive to Kuala Rompin (approx. 3 ¾ to 4 hour drive). Also possible to take a bus from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Rompin (approx. 4 to 5 hours). Also possible to drive from Singapore however you have to cross an international border. Finally, if you would like private transport arranged, we can help with this.

Optional add on experiences to compliment the fishing:

- Long beach walks

- Freshwater fishing for snakehead

- Fish the jetty for threadfin salmon, archer fish and giant mud skippers

- Throw in a day freshwater fishing for peacock bass, clown knife fish and snakehead near Kuala Lumpur after you land or before you depart
